Closing out the month of May, Ron Murray (centered in the picture) hosted the 2nd Annual Ron Murray DFW 7v7 Tournament. This one-day event brought together local high school 7-on-7 teams for a day focused on competition and fellowship.
The growth, influence, and recognition of this tournament have expanded significantly over the past two years. Participation increased from eight teams in its inaugural year to 12 teams this year, with programs from both UIL and TAPPS represented. The continued growth of the event is a testament to the impact Ron Murray has made on the DFW high school football landscape.
As Sports Director for K104 FM, Murray spends countless hours across the Metroplex highlighting student-athletes and giving them recognition through features such as the “K104 Beast of the Week” and coverage during High School Gameday broadcasts. What separates Murray from others in the industry is his commitment to giving back to the community. Through partnerships with sponsors, he has helped provide donations to local high school athletic programs throughout the year across multiple sports.
As this year’s tournament concluded, the 2026 champions, the North Crowley Panthers, were rewarded with a $1,000 donation to their football program.
TOP PERFORMERS
Loyace Grayes | 2027 WR | Life School Oak Cliff
Loyace Grayes had spectators talking all day long. He set the tone early with two highlight-reel catches in his opening game. One of the key contributors to Life School of Oak Cliff’s championship-game appearance, Grayes showcased the complete package as a receiver.
The well-built 6-foot-1 athlete consistently attacked the football at its highest point, displaying strong hands and outstanding body control. He remained unfazed by tight coverage, routinely making catches in traffic and across the middle of the field. Grayes said he is looking forward to a breakout season this fall, and based on his performance at this event, he is already off to a strong start after earning one of the tournament’s Offensive MVP honors.
Hayden Green | 2028 WR/TE | North Crowley HS
Hayden Green continues to establish himself as one of the most coveted prospects in the Class of 2028. Already holding 14 scholarship offers, Green put on an impressive display throughout the tournament, helping lead North Crowley to the championship.
At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, Green showcased an exceptional catch radius and the ability to make contested catches. He ran crisp routes, used his long stride to create separation, and consistently made plays in key situations. The future is bright for Green and the Panthers, who return talented 2027 quarterback Jacob “JT” Torres and one of the tallest receiving corps in the state.
Christian Hampton | 2027 QB | Berkner HS
Christian Hampton was arguably the most impressive quarterback at the tournament. He displayed outstanding accuracy throughout the day, consistently placing the football where only his receivers could make a play.
Regardless of the coverage or situation, Hampton delivered passes with precision and confidence. He also impressed with his clean footwork, poise in the pocket, and ability to read defenses before unleashing his strong arm. His performance left little doubt that he is a quarterback to watch heading into the upcoming season.
Carson Pope | 2028 WR | Richardson HS
Carson Pope was one of the most polished route runners on display throughout the tournament. His quick-twitch athleticism allowed him to create separation at the top of routes, and once the ball was in his hands, he showed an impressive second gear to pick up additional yardage.
Pope also displayed confidence and competitiveness when attacking the football, routinely going up to make contested catches despite tight coverage. His name may already sound familiar, as he was previously featured on the DR Sportz Network after recording a clutch pick-six during the DR7 Road to the Crown Oklahoma 15U Championship. Pope continues to prove he is one of the rising young playmakers in the Metroplex.
